til sunburns do us part

For better, for worse.

In sickness or in health.

You all recognize the above quote as part of the marriage vows. My love and I recited those vows to each other one year ago. But a year ago neither of us knew we would have to show those in very practical ways be on our 1st anniversary.

The one year anniversary – It is suppose to be magical and romantic, right? Well, ours was suppose to be, at least I thought so. My love planned a wonderful, surprise weekend away for us, and the weekend away was wonderful. It was the coming home and the days after that weren’t so much.

I may have mentioned a time or two to my husband since we got married it was his responsibility to plan our first anniversary celebration and that celebration should be a surprise to me. Oh, yeah, and I really, really like the beach. Well, Friday my husband surprised me with flowers and a nice evening at a hotel. He also planned a trip to the beach for us on Saturday and a shadow box to remember the experience.

What he didn’t plan is that we both would get terribly sunburnt. I don’t mean minor sunburns with a little pain. I mean, not moving, physically ill type sunburns. So here we are for worse and in sickness celebrating our anniversary by applying aloe in abundance and trying not to move. This will be a trip and an anniversary not soon forgotten.

Happy 1st anniversary, my love! Thank you for making me the happiest girl in the world every day. I love you for better, for worse, in sickness, in health, or in sunburn.

your turn: how did you celebrate your 1st anniversary?

  1. Stopping by from Prodigal Magazine…
Reminds me of when I decided I would get a “healthy shade of pink” after stopping a medication a week earlier that said to avoid excessive sunlight. Spending a week with 2nd degree burns on your legs didn’t help much. Congratulations on your anniversary. Wishing you many more to come.
